FELIX ROQUE ATTEND ROY MILLER THRU 1963 INDUCTED INTO HALL OF FAME 12-25-25

HALL OF FAME MEMBER

Felix "Rocky" Roque

He held his chest out with his white canvas belt and badge. They not only made sure we were safe crossing Morgan Street before and after school they were there so kids at Stephen F Austin Elementary would behave. When the Safety Patrol was out we behaved because we knew better. That might be something Felix could look into when he got out of High School.

Anyway, Felix started college at Del Mar, only having summer school to graduate from Roy Miller. His parents were sad that he did not graduate with the Class of 1964. He didn’t do well at Del Mar College either. So he quit and enlisted in the US Air Force that would be the answer he thought, just bail out. The Viet Nam War would start in earnest shortly after he joined the Air Force and he had 4 long years ahead of him but it was manageable!

After acclimating to military he completed basic with ease and then off to a service school where he would learn to install and maintain everything that included telephones and telegraph communication. He learned the trade well, and by the time he left he was the leader of a group of men. Felix, went from Washington, DC, Florida, and then off to Thailand. After his enlistment in the service ended he came home to a very different Country, what is the heck was going on he thought.

He just knew he would get hired at Southwest Bell easily, he was a military trained soldier and could do just about anything there. He came to the conclusion that he wasn't hired because he was a minority and minorities were not being hired for skilled jobs at that time in history. He thought back on the days he had spent on the Safety Patrol, which he had liked. Being a police officer is something he would like so he followed his dream and became a Police Officer for the City of Corpus Christi.

He came to love being a police officer until Hurricane Celia hit and he lost everything. Felix, decided that was not going to happen to him again, and moved to New Braunfels a town that had about 7,000 residents at that time. He enrolled at the University of South West Texas and earned a Bachelor Science Degree and moved on with his life not looking back.
