GILBERTO "GILBERT" LUNA CLASS OF 1964 HALL OF FAME MEMBER INDUCTED 09-21-25

HALL OF FAME MEMBER

Attended Roy Miller 1962 thru 1964 and graduated 1964.  Gilbert is a Veteran of the Vietnam War. He was a member of the famed US ARMY 199th LIGHT BRIGADE and served in Vietnam; MSD HONOR GUARD FOR DECEASED VETERANS AND SPOUSES.  He served on more than 2,500 funerals as a member of the MSD Honor Guard at the Costal Bend Veterans Cemetery, serving in the Guard more than 12 years and was Honored with a Plaque commemorating service to Veterans.

Gilbert became a communication specialist for the US Army. However; when he served in Vietnam tele-type was not used, I was utilized as a radioman; going into the forward base camps for two weeks and returning to our base camp for three.  In the forward area Gilbert’s tent was among tents occupied by soldiers whose jobs were varied; for example, some were artillery, some from armor (tanks, personal carriers, etc.), infantry and so on, and they would come to his tent to request supplies.

The requests would be called in to base camp so supplies need would be sent.  While they were at base camp, they would take turns spending one night every so often to receive the request of supplies needed from the forward area. They had their own supply dump although limited were able to assist those in need. He was a member of the 199th Light Infantry Brigade and was there from November 1966 through November 1967. He mentions running into a 1964 Graduate from Roy Miller, Ramiro “Ram” Chavez one day and they were very excited to see someone from home but it was the only time as he was getting there and I was already coming home.
