HENRY C HASTINGS, SR CLASS OF 1964 HALL OF FAME MEMBER 11-23-25

HALL OF FAME MEMBER

Henry C. Hastings, Sr

Henry Hastings graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1964, and enlisted in the U.S. Marine Corps. However; he found out later it was the Marine Corps Reserves he had joined and not the regular Corps.  During this time he would serve proudly in Vietnam.  Upon his return he enrolled in Del Mar College in Corpus Christi while station with the 4th Recon, 4th Marine Division Reserve Unit.  Henry thought how great it was that his first duty station after returning from Vietnam was in his home town at N.A.S. Corpus Christi, Tx.

When Henry was made aware of the actual situation he resigned from the reserves and on November 1966 he joined the Regular Marine Corps. He received orders to CAMP Pendleton in California where he was assigned to be a Handler of Troops.  Henry later served in Okinawa, Japan, then returned to North Island, San Diego, CA.  His last duty station with the Marine Corps was in MCAS Kaneohe, Hawaii.  He was stationed there from 1973 to 1977.  When my enlistment ended, he couldn’t make a go a civilian life.  He discussed the situation with his wife and they decided for him to join but when he tried to enlist, he was told he cold not enlist.

He had 14 years and was not allow to serve due to a prior situation with the Reserves.  Hanry did not quit there, he joined the U.S. Navy and went to basic training at Lake Hershers, New Jersy. After basic training he received orders to Boca Chica, Florida, a naval air base.  Later he would serve at the Naval ship yard aboard the USS Peleฤบu, a Helicopter ship homeported in Long Beach, CA.  He would serve proudly in other duty stations as well until he came full circle; his last duty station was of all places at the Naval Air Station, Corpus Christi, Tx.  It would be his last duty station; Henry retired on December 31, 1991.  Henry served his Country Proudly and said “I would do it all again in a heartbeat!”
