Rodolfo E. “Rudy” Cervantes Sr. passed away July 30, 2012.  He was born and raised in Corpus Christi, Texas on June 21,1946.  Rudy is preceded in death by his father, Raymond Cervantes and two brothers, Thomas and Bobby Cervantes; and one nephew, Roland Cervantes. Rudy was a veteran of the United States Marine Corp., he served during Vietnam from 1965 to 1969.  He joined the Marine Corps after graduating from Roy Miller in 1965; he served two tours of duty in South Vietnam from 1965 to 1969.

As a young soldier Rudy demonstrated the strength and resolve to perform his assigned tasks no matter what they entailed. Rudy was awarded 2 Purple Hearts for separate wounds he received during a mortar attack.  He was a forward observer for an artillery unit near Khe Sahn and was injured by an incoming mortar rounds  He was wounded twice during this mortar attack but continued on with his assigned duties. He served as a Member of 1st Battalion 9th Marines utilized in an effort to block enemy for the Army 1st Cavalry at Hill 471, 2 miles South of Khe Sanh.

After his enlistment he was employed at CCAD for over 30 years.  Rudy is survived by his wife, Norma Cervantes; four children, Rudy Jr. (Leana) Cervantes, Raul (Gloria) Ramos, Lisa (Johnny) Hernandez and Melissa Ramos.
