MEMBER HALL OF FAME MEMBER: BLAS LOPEZ

Blas graduated from Roy Miller in 1966.  He joined the U.S. Marine Corps after Graduation; sometime after service school he was sent to Vietnam for an obligatory 13-month tour.  While in Country Blas mentioned that they received "incoming fire” nightly into their perimeter.  He recalls that it was hard to take the nightly pounding, and in the daytime, it was a serene landscape around Hill 327.

After his time in the service. Blas made a career with State Government, retiring early to pursue his life-long dream of being a fulltime professional artist. His focus is on cultural aspects of both his Hispanic roots and also enjoys depicting the Native American culture. Blas has been represented by galleries in Texas, Arion, New Mexico and California. Blas a well-recognized artist currently lives in San Antonio, which has been home for over 30 years.
