HALL OF FAME IN MEMORIAM
Wayne passed away on December 17, 2024, at the age of 79 years. Wayne battled Alzheimer's Disease for nine
years before succumbing to this miserable decease. He was
born on September 19, 1945, in El Campo, Texas, and was raised in Corpus
Christi. He is preceded in death by his
parents, James Albert and Frances Cockroft, and a nephew, Kirk Cockroft.
He graduated from Roy Miller High School in 1964, and was Valedictorian of his class. Wayne was drafted by the Army after graduation. After his enlistment he enrolled at the University of Texas where he earned a Bachelor of Science Degree in Civil Engineering in 1970. Wayne met his future wife, Margaret on a blind date and they hit it off. They would later marry and had a happy life together.
Wayne went to work for the City of Corpus Christi; a career
that would span 30 years. He was Water Distribution Superintendent for the
Water Department, and the Superintendent for the Wastewater Department. After
retiring from Corpus Christi, Wayne moved to Victoria, Texas and would become
Head of Public Utilities.
