SECURITY PLATOON ENGAGEMENT 3 KM SW OF QUE SON, 3rd Platoon - On December 10, a Company D platoon, which included CPL Jennings was sent to provide security for a downed helicopter in the vicinity of Thang Tay hamlet, Que Son District during Operation Harvest Moon. The Marines encountered an enemy force and exchanged automatic weapons and rifle fire that wounded several men. Seriously wounded Cpl Jennings was evacuated first to Chu Lai and then to the 8th USA Field Hospital in Nha Trang where he died of his wounds from the hostile rifle fire.
